Letting Students Take the Wheel – Monday, November 7th
Providing students with more control of their learning is a worthy endeavor but where does one begin? It can seem like a daunting prospect, but it can make differentiating instruction and scaffolding easier than in a traditional classroom. During this session we will dive into NYSED’s Science Performance Level Descriptions (PLD’s) to see how this could be incorporated into any elementary or intermediate classroom. Through modeling, a look at what this looked like in my classroom, and brainstorming we will be on our way to creating a more student-centered classroom!

I’m in the process of developing a workshop to take elementary science teachers outside to learn about the local geology. Over the course of the day we will be looking at how we could align what we have learned to the new science standards as well as how to bring this sort of experience to their classrooms.
